The first impression always matters; job interview is your best chance to make a strong impression on your potential employer. Undoubtedly, the whole interviewing process in anticipation of a new job could be stressful. Let’s look at some of the possible questions during an interview:

  • What made you interested in working here?
  • What qualities and competencies you bring to add value to this role?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • What are the six C’s and which, in your opinion is the most important?
  • How and by what means would you deal with an aggressive patient?
  • How would you feel dealing with challenging behaviors?
  • What’s your understanding of confidentiality?
  • What would you do if you were requested to operate against manual handling protocols?
  • What makes you the best candidate for this job role?

Best practices before attempting an interview:

  • An ability to remain calm and composed whilst under pressure is an extremely important aspect of applying for any healthcare role.
  • Stay Connected: Just be aware of any unfamiliar phone numbers, answers all calls because most of the hiring managers just look at your application, pick-up the phone, and call without scheduling an interview.
  • Demonstrate the competencies of providing exceptional, patient-centered care.
  • We recommend you structure your answers by using the S.T.A.R. (situation, task, action, result) technique.
  • If interviewing by phone, find a quiet place with no distractions and most important with good network reception
  • Be Cheerful: Make sure you have a happy and positive tone of voice on the phone. Sound friendly and nice, it does mean a lot.
  • If it is an onsite visit, be dressed in professional business attire. Have good eye contact, a firm handshake, and the best body language will make you stand out from the crowd.
  • Always maintain a positive attitude; never talk about bad experiences from past assignments/jobs.
  • Just in case of scheduling requests or you need specific dates off, please discuss this during your initial interview.
  • Research and know the facility interviewing you, and remember a few facts about them.

At the end of your interview, we advise asking the interview panel the following questions:

  • What are the specific needs of the clients you tend to deal with and is there anything within the role that you would like me to focus on more?
  • What types of patient population/caseload are primarily seen and the systems used at the facility?
  • Can you tell me about the vibe and work ambiance of the facility?
  • How often do you send your nurses to float? To which floors?
  • What kind of scheduling do you prefer?
